DNS server (Domain Name System Server)
A domain name server is a directory hosted on a server that maps domain names, human-friendly addresses like yourdomain.com, to their associated IP addresses (ie 212.199.202.114). When a person types in a URL, their web browser does a query to their Internet Service Provider's DNS (Domain Name Server), which then provides the IP address of the server hosting the requested website and the route to reach that server.
